• The neighborhood was one of modest people who had content hearts. It was an alley without any luxurious houses, containing only four homes. My house, the last in the alley, was the most dilapidated of them all.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

An elderly, handsome man, probably between forty-eight and fifty years old, struggled to enter the house through its slightly rickety door. It was clear he wasn’t in good health, as he walked slowly. • He greeted in a calm, refined voice, and hurried towards a small room upon hearing the sound of soft crying. Entering the room, he called out the name “Fatima Bintu, Subhanallah!” Concerned, he quickly placed down the small bag he was carrying and gently lifted her head with worry.

 

The girl was beautiful, with an innate gift and a remarkable aura given by her Creator. She lifted her face, full of grace, and fixed her bright, shining eyes on her father.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

• In a soft, melodious voice, she said, “Fafi, Fafi, where did you go and leave me? I’m scared, Fafi, please stop going out. I’m so afraid of losing you. Let me go out instead and find something for us to eat, I beg you, Fafi. I promise I will do whatever is necessary. Please, Fafi!” She finished her plea while clasping her hands together.

 

The elderly man let out a deep sigh and then, in a comforting tone, said, “Oh, Bintu, who else would be more suitable to go out between the two of us? Have you forgotten you are a girl, delicate and vulnerable? Bintu, remember that there is nothing to fear but Allah. Don’t harbor thoughts of anyone harming you, except for what Allah has destined for you. You are my most beloved daughter, and I strive to protect your life, Bintu. My constant prayer is that Allah keeps the eyes of the envious away from you and protects you, along with your mother, wherever she may be.”

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

• As he finished speaking, he quickly wiped away the tears that had gathered in his eyes. Handing her the bag, he said, “Come on, get up and prepare the porridge for us. I know you’re hungry.” He smiled warmly to reassure her, and she responded with a smile that illuminated her beauty even more, revealing her pearly teeth and dimples on her cheeks. “Ma sha Allah!” her father exclaimed after seeing her stand up, smiling.
